Wayanad is a district in the north-east of Kerala state in India. This place always reminds me of greenery which is found everywhere, the Kerala style houses, the wonderful stay and the journey. So guys be ready to explore the hidden beauty of Kerala, WAYANAD with me via this blog.
I travelled to Wayanad with my friends at the end of April 2017. The weather was hot which is expected during the month of April but it was tolerable enough to travel. Since the weather was hot, we were suggested not to cover waterfalls as there won't be much water and we did not cover those places. But we still enjoyed the trip very much. So guys you can plan a trip either during start of monsoon or winter season i.e. end of May or starting of June or October to February.
How to reach ?
We started our journey from Bangalore in our own vehicle which can be booked easily at Bangalore. Wayanad is around 280 km from Bangalore and we travelled through MYSORE and BANDIPUR National park. Our destination was KALPETTA and we had an amazing experience specially when we pass through Bandipur national park, luckily it was morning time and we saw some animals like deer and elephant by the side of road.
We reached Kalpetta in the morning where we stayed at a homestay. The stay at homestay was again a wonderful experience. The rooms and washrooms were clean and there was a kitchen where you can cook stuffs. The rooms had balcony and the view was awesome from the balcony. I highly recommend this place for stay at Kalpetta. The details of the homestay can be found in below link.
Banasura Sagar Dam, Pookode Lake and Lakkidi View Point
On the same day of arrival at Wayanad we covered few places. Banasura Sagar Dam was good place to have a photography session as the view was amazing and we felt relieved in a hot weather because of the cool breeze. After spending some time there we reached Pookode lake where we spent time boating.
Lakkidi view point was on the way while we were returning from Pookode lake, the point was at high altitude and offers a beautiful view down the hill.

Edakkal Caves and Pallikkunnu Church
The next place which we were about to cover had historical importance, the Edakkal Caves. But before we reached, we spent some time at tea garden on the way.
We finally reached Edakkal Caves after spending some at tea garden clicking pictures. Since it was 3,900 ft above sea level we had to climb around 300 steps and walk for around 1 Km. The cave was carved with painting which is believed to be more than 8000 years old. The view from the cave was beautiful and it was yet another good spot for photography.
While returning from Edakkal Caves we visited Pallikkunnu Church which was around 14 km from Kalpetta. The structure of church was really good and it is one of the oldest church in the city.

We finally left Wayanad next morning. It was a wonderful time at Wayanad and I really enjoyed a lot. Yes, we did miss few places but you guys can try out those.
Wayanad is a good place to travel for those people or professionals who stays at Karnataka or near by states where you can spent quality time with natural beauty and get relaxed from your hectic work.
Mysore Palace
While returning to Bangalore we covered Mysore palace which was on the way. The palace covers huge area of the city Mysore. The architecture and the interior design of the palace is really awesome. I highly recommend everyone to pay a visit to the palace at least once which is also the point of attraction of the city. Lots of historical items can be found inside the palace and it will take at least half and hour to cover everything inside the palace.
The best time to visit Mysore is during Dusherra. During that time the whole city including the palace is decorated with different lights which makes the city more beautiful. But on the day of Dusherra the palace is generally crowdy and you can't enjoy much at the palace. So, I suggest to plan a visit few days before Dusherra if you want to enjoy the lighting and decoration of Mysore.

This brings to an end to yet another memorable trip. But before leaving, I would like to suggest something to you guys. If you are returning to Bangalore from Mysore specially during evening of Sunday or last day of long weekend, traffic will be more on the Mysore-Bangalore highway and you might get stuck in the traffic so plan it accordingly. So guys that's all I have for this time. Hope you guys love it 🌝.
